This Guy Left An Engineering Career To Open A Spa

In order to fully focus on his spa company, Mohd Amir Md Arif was willing to leave his career as an engineer.

Mohd Amir says he did not regret the decision he made four years ago because he was well prepared even though there were a few that questioned the move.

For him, the most important thing is passion and as it turns out, the decision to move to a different field has proven to be fruitful because he now has two spa outlets in Miri, Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur.

“After resigning in December 2014, I took the initiative to provide massage services for men around Kuala Lumpur for a year throughout 2015.

“It wasn’t my first experience because I had done it part-time whilst studying at university.

“In fact, I used the skills to look for pocket money to cover my expenses after my father died during my fourth semester of study,” he said.

Speaking further, he says besides studying massaging skills from his mother, brother and sister, he also mastered massage techniques from silat associations.

He said the knowledge and skills were combined for the benefit of customers who seeked massage services at his own spa.

“The first branch  is in Miri, Sarawak, opened on 1 January 2016 followed by the opening of the second branch at Centrio Pantai Hillpark, Kuala Lumpur in November of the same year.

“It is a personal success for me and it would have been impossible to achieve without the support of my family and staff in both branches.

“It is just the beginning, I have a long-term plan to expand the company’s Laksamana Spa through the addition of branches in other locations,” he said to Harian Metro.

In addition to satisfaction, he was also pleased that involvement in the field gave him the opportunity to build up a good network among his customers.

Mohd Amir said, as entrepreneurs, good relationships with all parties is important to ensure that the business is more advanced.

He said the initiative was also necessary, especially when faced with challenges in the field of female monopolized spa companies.

“My customers are diverse and it is even more fun when I gain the trust of dignitaries and celebrities.

“So, I have to always give the best because customer satisfaction is a priority as this company faces many competitors.

“Without their support and loyalty, my company will not survive until today,” he said.
